Is sex a good form of exercise?

Burning calories, racing heart, sweating body, stretched muscles… could be used to describe both an active sex session and a vigorous cardio workout!

So, is sex a good form of exercise?

Sex can increase your metabolic rate, boost the immune system and relieve stress. The same positive effects you get from exercising too. The average sex session lasts about half an hour and burns between 50 and 100 calories, depending on your activity, enthusiasm and technique. Put simply, the more energetic you are between the sheets, the more calories you’ll burn! And surely thirty minutes of sex is likely to be far more enjoyable than half an hour down the gym!

Top or bottom?

Your choice of position affects which muscle groups are used and strengthened too. If you like to be on top, you’ll use your upper arm, leg and core abdominal muscles more. If you’re a woman who prefers to be on the bottom, you can strengthen your pelvic floor muscles by doing your Kegel exercises – something that will heighten the pleasure mid-thrust for both you and your partner.
